This site displays my career as disc jockey,
although I did not manage to get all the images that reflect my early
stages. However, there are images of disco equipment, photographs of
past events, links to music sites (music that I normally would play),
flyers of past events and a display of Journalistic awards I won in
my career.
I was radio/club disc jockey for the past 20 years. It all started when
I used to collect all the latest pop music as a hobby. Music magazines
such as "Record Mirror", "New Musical Express and "Billboard"
also played a vital role in my career. Also, listening to other Disc
Jockeys I suppose that's where I got my inspiration to choose such a
profession. When I got started, I used to play music at weddings, birthday
parties, school functions and nightclubs. While working as a Disc Jockey/Producer
on National radio.
I joined the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation in 1982 on a part-time
basis for seven years. In 1990 I was offered a full-time job as an Announcer
Producer for National Radio 3 (an all hit pop station aimed at audience
aged between 3 and 35 years old). My duties were to present and produce
programmes for the station.
I was awarded "Journalistic Radio DJ of the Year (1989)",
"Journalistic Radio DJ of the Year (1990)", "Journalistic
and Media Award for Radio Presenter, Entertainment (1991)", "Journalistic
and Media Award for Radio Presenter/DJ (1992)", "Journalistic
and Media Award for Radio Presenter/DJ (1993)",
In 1991 I was appointed Senior/Announcer Producer for the station. This
promotion had extra duties and responsibilities. Some of them were planning
and evaluating of programmes, prospecting for new programme ideas and
production and research of programmes. In order to perform I had to purchase
a professional sound system as displayed in on the equipment page. The
music selection was mostly from my collection, which was a variety to
suit all tastes. I used a trailer to ship my equipment between shows.
I would use the press to advertise the shows or flyers (see examples
on the "Past Events" page)
Although, I have lost copies of my early photographs I have displayed
the recent ones on my site. With the arrival of the World Wide Web,
getting to know about new music and purchasing music was made easy.
As opposed to the magazines and music from abroard, which would arrive
out of date.
